Longtime Arcadia Historical Society treasurer Gil Stromsoe received a certificate of appreciation and a rousing round of applause for his 30 years of service at the group’s annual membership meeting.
“I don’t know many who have volunteered as many years as Gil has,” public relations director Ed Andersen said as he presented the award to the Stromsoe, who has been the AHS treasurer for 25 of those years.
Stromsoe joked that he’s still on the AHS board after three decades because “they won’t let me quit.”
Stromsoe has worked for many years as a CPA and recently retired from Mark Schaefer Associates. He has also been a member of the Arcadia Chamber and the Rotary Club. Gil’s wife, Carol, was present for the Historical Society’s recognition.
About 60 people attended the April 29 membership meeting at Prince Erik Hall.
The event also featured a presentation on Arcadia’s Prince Erik given earlier by the Rev. Dr. Jolene Cadenbach.
Cadenbach gave an entertaining account of Prince Erik of Denmark’s time on a chicken ranch in Arcadia. His home, built in late 1924 or early 1925, still stands behind the Arcadia Congregational Church at 2607 S. Santa Anita Ave.
