Arcadia Historical Markers guide

The Arcadia Historical Society has installed markers around town to broaden public awareness of Arcadia’s history. Here are their locations:

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 1

No. 1: First Avenue School

Site of Arcadia’s first schoolhouse, a yellow clapboard building built in 1907.
Marker dedicated in 2007.
Located at the corner of First Avenue and California Street.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 2

No. 2: Original Arcadia City Hall

First official Arcadia City Hall, dedicated July 13, 1918.
Marker dedicated in 2008.
Located at the northwest corner of First Avenue and Huntington Drive.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 3

No. 3: Arcadia County Park

Once “Lucky” Baldwin’s racetrack, now a public park.
Marker dedicated in 2008.
Located at the southwest corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 4

No. 4: Arcadia Woman’s Club

The club house dates back to 1931. The Arcadia Historical Society can be traced back to this century-old club.
Marker dedicated in 2009.
Located at the corner of First Avenue and Diamond Street.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 5

No. 5: Chamber of Commerce

Futuristic round building of mid-1960s quickly became the city’s geographic and civic hub.
Marker dedicated in 2009.
Located at 388 W. Huntington Dr.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 6

No. 6: Santa Anita Park

“The world’s richest racetrack” opened to the public on Christmas Day 1934.
Marker dedicated in 2009.
Located inside the racetrack’s eastern admission gate.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 7

No. 7: Adams’ Pack Station

The last remaining pack station in Southern California, still maintaining its original mission.
Marker dedicated in 2011.
Located at the station on Chantry Flat Road.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 8

No. 8: The Derby restaurant

The classic gathering place for horse-racing fans and sport insiders alike.
Marker dedicated in 2011.
Located at 233 E. Huntington Dr.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 9

No. 9: L.A. County Arboretum

The 127-acre Arboretum occupies the heart of historic Rancho Santa Anita.
Marker dedicated in 2012.
Located at the Arboretum’s entrance.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 10 - Lucky Baldwin

No. 10: Elias Jackson Baldwin

“The outstanding individualist of his generation.”
Marker dedicated in 2013.
Located On the rose garden island separating Campus Drive and Huntington Drive, at Holly Avenue.

Arcadia Historical Marker No. 11

No. 11: Depots, Hotel Oakwood

Trains were a prominent part of Arcadia for generations. The Oakwood was “a city hotel in a frontier village.”
Marker dedicated in 2017.
Located at the Arcadia Transit Plaza.

Arcadia Historical Marker Baldwin Lake

No. 12: Baldwin Lake

Baldwin Lake casts a long shadow of history at the core of the Arboretum.
Marker dedicated in 2018.
Located on the east side of Baldwin Lake.

Racing Walk in Arcadia, Calif.

Racing Walk of Champions

Recognizes horses, trainers, jockeys and owners.
Marker erected in 2016.
Located at the Arcadia Transit Plaza.
