The Arcadia Historical Society has installed markers around town to broaden public awareness of Arcadia’s history. Here are their locations:
No. 1: First Avenue School
Site of Arcadia’s first schoolhouse, a yellow clapboard building built in 1907.
Marker dedicated in 2007.
Located at the corner of First Avenue and California Street.

No. 2: Original Arcadia City Hall
First official Arcadia City Hall, dedicated July 13, 1918.
Marker dedicated in 2008.
Located at the northwest corner of First Avenue and Huntington Drive.

No. 3: Arcadia County Park
Once “Lucky” Baldwin’s racetrack, now a public park.
Marker dedicated in 2008.
Located at the southwest corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue.

No. 4: Arcadia Woman’s Club
The club house dates back to 1931. The Arcadia Historical Society can be traced back to this century-old club.

No. 5: Chamber of Commerce
Futuristic round building of mid-1960s quickly became the city’s geographic and civic hub.

No. 6: Santa Anita Park
“The world’s richest racetrack” opened to the public on Christmas Day 1934.

Located inside the racetrack’s eastern admission gate.

No. 7: Adams’ Pack Station
The last remaining pack station in Southern California, still maintaining its original mission.

Located at the station on Chantry Flat Road.

No. 8: The Derby restaurant
The classic gathering place for horse-racing fans and sport insiders alike.

No. 9: L.A. County Arboretum
The 127-acre Arboretum occupies the heart of historic Rancho Santa Anita.

No. 10: Elias Jackson Baldwin
“The outstanding individualist of his generation.”
Marker dedicated in 2013.
Located On the rose garden island separating Campus Drive and Huntington Drive, at Holly Avenue.

No. 11: Depots, Hotel Oakwood
Trains were a prominent part of Arcadia for generations. The Oakwood was “a city hotel in a frontier village.”

No. 12: Baldwin Lake
Baldwin Lake casts a long shadow of history at the core of the Arboretum.
Marker dedicated in 2018.
Located on the east side of Baldwin Lake.

Racing Walk of Champions
Recognizes horses, trainers, jockeys and owners.
Marker erected in 2016.
