Wine and Cheese Open’s 2020 with Good Taste!
The Arcadia Historical Society’s opening event of 2020 was a big hit, with a standing-room-only crowd enjoying fine wine and cheeses donated by the Trader Joe’s store in Monrovia.
On Friday, Jan. 24, the Floretta K. Lauber Education Center was alive with old friends and new ideas, as Ed Andersen presented “The Future of Arcadia History” on the big screen.
The highlight of the evening was a short video of historian Carol Libby giving a history lesson on the early days of “Lucky” Baldwin’s “puny village of sheds, shacks and shanties” that was to become the city of Arcadia.
Dignitaries in attendance included Arcadia Mayor April Verlato, City Council member Tom Beck, former congressman Bob Margett, and many other friends and history makers.
After the presentation, Kevin Kane updated the crowd on the status of several ongoing renovation projects at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, including major work on the Queen Anne Cottage and the old adobe. AHS donated an unprecedented $25,000 in 2019 for the refurbishment of the cottage’s vintage paintings.
The Arboretum was represented by Sylvia Rosenberger, who thanked AHS for its continuing support.
